Boys Junior Varsity Football, Boys Varsity Football · Homewood 20, Parker 14: Patriots survive second-half rally for the win

The final minutes of Friday night’s Class 6A, Region 5 battle between Homewood and Parker couldn’t have been more dramatic if you’d planned it out on paper.
The closing moments of the game had it all–a missed field goal, a fumble setting up a game-winning opportunity and two missed potential go-ahead passes in the endzone.
Homewood (2-0) emerged victorious, 20-14, over Parker (0-2) at the end of all the dramatics.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard first with a 1-yard touchdown run from Nick McCoy which was set up by a fumble recovery by Devin Bacchus.
Homewood tacked on two field goals from Lane Gilchrist in the second quarter to go up 13-0, then quarterback Larkin Williams threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Marcus McGhee to increase the lead to 20-0 in the final 20 seconds of the first half.
Parker came out roaring in the second half, holding Homewood to no scores for the rest of the game and scoring two touchdowns of their own–one at the 6:10 mark of the third quarter, and then a touchdown run and 2-point conversion from Corey Dudley with just over a minute to go in the period.
The fourth quarter remained stalled until Homewood missed a 29-yard field goal attempt with ten minutes to go in the game and then Parker missed a pivotal 4th-and-goal pass attempt in the endzone.
Seemingly with the game in hand, the Patriots fumbled and Parker recovered on the 18-yard-line with another opportunity to win the game with just two minutes left in regulation.
C.D. Daniels preserved the Homewood victory when he knocked down another Parker fourth down pass in the endzone.
Homewood plays Jackson-Olin in continued Region 5 play, while Parker faces off against John Carroll.
