Boys Junior Varsity Football, Boys Varsity Football · Pleasant Grove 27, Parker 12: Spartans rely on running of Brandon Simmons

Brandon Simmons ran for 155 yards as Class 5A No. 3 Pleasant Grove (3-0, 2-0) defeated Parker 27-12 in Region 5 action Friday night.

Simmons carried 24 times, scoring on runs of 13 and 20 yards in a game delayed for more than an hour because of lightning and another 40 minutes because of a neck injury to Pleasant Grove’s Rodney Hill. Hill had feeling in his extremities and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Parker (1-2, 0-2) struggled all night, falling behind 20-6 at the half and 27-6 before adding a late touchdown.

Play of the Game: With Pleasant Grove holding a slim 13-6 lead early in the second quarter, the Spartans’Lequinton King stepped in front of a Javonte Hurst pass for a key interception. Pleasant Grove quickly scored.

Game ball: Simmons was the workhorse for the Spartans, carrying 12 times for 71 yards in the first half and 12 times for 84 yards in the second half.
